The ContexNET Architecture
A technology for scanning across the LAN or the Internet
What does it do?
The ContexNET Architecture allows you to share a scanner on a network and scan to a designated scan folder on another computer.
What do you need?
ContexNET Architecture features are enabled with installation of WIDEsystemNET version 3.2 and above. PCs that use the scanner (either through scanner sharing or scanning to a designated folder) must employ compatible scan or copy software such as WIDEimageNET or JETimageNET.
Easily setup in WIDEsystemNET
The ContexNET Architecture features are easy to set up in WIDEsystemNET through the scan-to-net tab. ContexNET Architecture settings are logically divided into options for a PC with a scanner and a PC without a scanner. The dialog contains explanatory dialog texts and for most cases, setup is completed with a single selection. There is an advanced option button for special network considerations.
What does it mean to share a scanner on a network?
A shared scanner becomes visible to all user PCs on the network, so:
-
Users can share a single scanner
- Users can access a remotely located scanner directly from their own PC
- User PCs automatically detect active shared scanners on the network
- Users can scan from any place with a LAN or an Internet connection
Sharing a scanner: configuration in a LAN
- A shared scanner can be placed and used by everyone in a large open office
- The scanner’s PC is installed with WIDEsystemNET
- The workstations sharing the scanner are installed with WIDEsystemNET and copy/scan software (such as Contex WIDEimageNET and JETimageNET)

What does it mean to scan to a designated folder on another computer?
Network PCs with active designated folders are visible to the scanner’s PC and can be used as scan targets, so:
-
Scanned files are created on the scanner PC and saved to designated scan folders on other PCs
- Users can scan directly to their own PC or others' PCs
- A company can create a central scan station that many can operate
- The company’s scan/copy applications need be installed on the scanner PC only
- Users can scan to any PC connected to the LAN or even via the Internet
Scanning to a designated folder: security features
- Designated scan folders are only accessible by the scanner PC as opposed to normal network folder sharing
- Password protection (optional on the user PC): scanning to a designated folder will require a password
Scanning to a designated folder: configuration in a LAN
- Users work from the scanner PC to scan to any user PC on the network
- The scanner’s PC is installed with WIDEsystemNET and copy/scan software
- The target PC’s with designated folders are installed with WIDEsystemNET
